Teofimo Lopez took advantage of the attention on Saturday’s ESPN cards to call out Jeron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford, in that order. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) is desperate for a big fight after being ignored in recent attempts to lure Devin Haney to face him.
Lopez wants Ennis
If Teofimo is seriously interested in fighting Ennis, it should be at welterweight because he’s too big to drop down to 140.
In an interview, Lopez said he deserves a bigger cut for the guys he’s calling out because he’s “the king of the division.” He’s not going to win any of those guys over with his attitude, and he’ll likely have to continue to fight the same obscure opposition he’s had for the past few years.
Interestingly, Teofimo, 27, wants to fight Ennis as he has felt in the past that he brings nothing to the table. Does his recent poor performance against Karen Chukhajian have anything to do with Theo’s sudden interest?
“I need a guy who will fight.” If you say you’re the best, fight the best,” Teofimo Lopez told Top Rank Boxing, saying he wants to get back in the ring against a good opponent. “Jaron Ennis ‘Boots,’ Gervonta Davis, and end up with Terence Crawford,” Teofimo said when asked who he wants to fight.
Gervonta won’t waste time fighting Teofim as there are plenty of other fighters at 135 to face. Crawford doesn’t take Theo seriously and won’t try.
When ESPN’s Mark Kriegel asked Teofimo who he wanted to fight, he ruled out Boots, Tank and Crawford. This is not the first time that Teofimo has called out big names, and the only one he has ever mentioned was Vasiliy Lomachenko. The other guys Teofimo fought were smaller.
