George Russell took down Max Verstappen in eight words in a heated F1 row

Lando Norris took his eighth pole position of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton he suffered an early elimination in his final qualifying as a Mercedes driver.

Norris led a McLaren one or two, with a teammate Oscar Piastri joining him in the front row as the team tightened their grip at the Constructors’ Championship.

The British team is battling Ferrari for the constructors’ crown this weekend, holding a 21-point lead over the Scuderia.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc endured a tough weekend to boost McLaren’s chances and will start Sunday’s race at the back of the field.

F1 Abu Dhabi GP LIVE: Sergio Perez is out!

There is a virtual safety car in place on lap 2 following a collision between Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez. The Red Bull driver, who could compete for the last time today, abandoned his car as it was pulled from the side of the track.

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton managed to storm the grid. Ferrari is up to eighth, and Mercedes is 12th.

It all happens as the cars fly towards the first corner, Max Verstappen makes a move and looks to get around the inside of Oscar Piastri and the two cars collide.

Piastri veers off track to the right, Verstappen swings to the left. Red Bull manage to right themselves and then continue, but McLaren is knocked all the way down the field.

Lando Norris still manages to get ahead of Carlos Sainz!

The final race of the 2024 F1 season begins in Abu Dhabi with the Constructors’ Championship. Ferrari trails McLaren by 21 points, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri blocking the grid in pole and second position.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have work to do to stay ahead of their rivals with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen also in the hunt for a race win.

At the back of the grid, Lewis Hamilton is hoping for a great recovery to end his tenure at Mercedes on a high.

Brad Pitt in boxing

Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz cornered Hollywood star Brad Pitt, who stars in next year’s F1 film, in a garage.

“I have so much respect for these guys,” says Pitt. “What these drivers and cars can do is beyond the limit. I was having the time of my life. I want [filming] it could last another year. I could shed a tear!

“It’s really good fun. Our director said, let’s put the actors in the car and sleep for the weekend and make the best racing movie. I dare say we did.”
