Cole Palmer He was pelted with missiles by Tottenham fans as he attempted to take corners during a heated London derby Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Chelsea and Spurs shared an entertaining first half as two quick goals for the home side saw one back from the Blues’ Jadon Sancho.
But the game had to be abandoned twice as stewards cleared and held back fans when Palmer, Chelsea’s top player this season, was bombarded with balls of paper that had been placed on the Spurs seats to create a mosaic before kick-off. A bottle aimed at the Chelsea player also appeared to have been thrown among the objects.
Palmer appeared to shrug off the incidents, throwing them out before taking the lineup. The playmaker had an otherwise uneventful half, breaking it open with his best opportunity after entering the final cut in the box.
Spurs are likely to face disciplinary action from the Football Association following the incident.
Tottenham took the lead when Cucurella slid onto the ball early in the game and Brennan Johnson pounced, racing down the right before teeing up Dominic Solanke, who leapt at the near post to curl the ball into the top corner.
And another disaster struck for Cucurello, who slipped once again and was stolen again by the Spurs. This time Dejan Kulusevski drove inside onto his left foot, parrying the shot once, then twice, before firing into the bottom right corner again.
Sancho responded as Chelsea went into the break trailing 2-1.
