Ten people were injured after a police officer on a motorcycle ran into passers-by at a weekend parade in Palm SpringsCalifornia, authorities said.
Everything from injured were taken to hospitals Saturday night for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including the police officer, according to police.
The witnesses said Desert sun newspaper that a policeman hit a car and suddenly lost control of the motorcycle.
The bike slid into the crowd of spectators and the festive event stopped for more than an hour.
Authorities said some paramedics participating in the parade treated the injured, including ambulance crews and fire trucks still decked out in holiday lights.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. as crowds gathered to watch the 32nd annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights, which usually draws between 80,000 and 100,000 spectators.
“I feel terrible about the accident and the injuries to the very people we protect,” Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills said on Facebook.
City officials said the California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and asking for witness footage.
