West Ham United have demanded privacy for Michail Antonio and his family, confirming that the striker was involved in a serious accident on Saturday.
The club issued the update after pictures of the broken Ferrari in Essex were circulated on social media. The vehicle had suffered a lot of damage and there were confirmed reports that Anthony was taken to the hospital.
A club spokesman said: “West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area. Michail is conscious and co-operative and is currently under close observation at a central London hospital.
“During this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Mikhail and his family. The club will not be making any further comment this evening, but will provide a further update in due course.”
Anthony, from Wandsworth in south London, was rejected by his mother for trial at Tottenham when he was 14, and began his senior years. in non-league with local club Toting & Micahbefore playing through the promotion divisions for Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, with loans at Cheltenham, Southampton and Leicester.
