Authorities in Tarentum they believe they have placed the body of Elizabeth Pollard The woman who fell into the sinkhole while looking for her cat earlier this week.
Sean Hribal, deputy coroner in Westmeath County near Pittsburgh; confirmed the Associated Press Searchers believe they found the remains of the 64-year-old grandmother on the fourth day of the search.
Pollard was seen for the last four days close to the sink above the coal mine. A sinkhole was reported to have opened above me.
The search for Pollard began on Monday after his family reported him missing in search of Pepper, a lost cat. Explorers are quickly focused on a sinkhole that has just recently opened in the village of Margarita. A sinkhole is said to have an average hole in the surface.
“About the sinkhole, it seems likely that it was created at the time that, unfortunately, Miss Pollard was walking,” Pennsylvania state trooper Steve Liman told ABC affiliate WTAE-TV. “There is no evidence of any time where she would have been in this hole before with her to walk around looking for her cat.”
The challenge of excavation continued at the site of the abandoned 70-year-old mine. The body has yet to recover.
“We’re going to dig, and we’re going to be able to get to the area where we believe it’s collapsed, and the dirt is tangled there, and we have to take it out slowly,” said Limani.
Shortly after Pollard went missing, authorities were able to locate his five-year-old granddaughter in a car near the sinkhole. Despite being in freezing temperatures for about 12 hours, the girl was unharmed.
