A New Hampshire man who formerly lived in Haverhill was convicted in Salem Superior Court of raping a child in 2007, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office announced Thursday.
Gjon Gjegji, 56, of Pelham, New Hampshire, was sentenced Wednesday to 13 to 14 years in state prison, Tucker’s office said in a statement. Gjegji was found guilty of three counts of rape of a child (aggravated by age difference) and three counts of rape of a child with force on September 27.
He was charged in March 2022, and the crimes happened in 2007, according to the statement.
“We truly admire the strength and courage shown by the victim in this case throughout the court process,” Tucker said in his statement.
After completing his sentence, Gjegji will be on probation for three years.
