Popular food chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is raising menu prices by about 2% nationwide, citing inflation as the cause.
“For the first time in more than a year, we have taken a modest price increase of about 2% nationally to offset inflation,” Chipotle Lauri Schalow, director of Corporate Affairs, said in a statement.
The statement was issued in response to an analysis by Financial group Truist Securitieswhich revealed a 2% to 20% increase in Chipotle locations surveyed, NBC reported.
There are 72 Chipotle restaurants in Massachusetts.
Earlier this year, the brand was criticized for offering smaller portions than other fast food chains.
former Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol told investors during a July earnings call “There was never a directive to offer less to our customers,” but the feedback the company was receiving prompted the company to revise its approach.
In recent years, eating out has become more expensive for both restaurant operators and customers.
The price of dinner has soared more than 28% since the spring of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, show statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
