Tank surprised fans today by announcing that 2025 will be his last in the sport, as he will retire at the end of the year. He says he will fight three times next year and then hang up the gloves. Therefore, His Excellency Turki will place the fight between Tank and Shakur; that will have to happen next year,
Turkey’s master plan
In order for the Tank-Shakur fight to happen, Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) will have to beat the undefeated Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) who had #1 Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs). Those aren’t exactly safe wins for Shakur, who isn’t a puncher and doesn’t look like he’s built for power in the 135 lb. division.
“The situation with Shakur is (William) Zepeda is injured. My plan is to make Shakur what I want to see in my life. I hope I have time to see it. For Shakur, my plan is this fight (Floyd Schofield), then Zepeda, and then let’s see if Tank wants to be on our show,” His Excellency Turki Alalshik told Ariel Helwani channel on YouTube about his interest in pairing with Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis.
“He officially asked me for two Ferraris on social media. I think two Ferraris are a lot cheaper than what I pay for some fighters. If this is the price of a fight, why not?” Turki said of Tank Davis, who previously asked him for two Ferraris before considering a fight on one of his cards.
Tank will have to want a fight with Shakur as he has routinely avoided risky fights throughout his 11-year professional career. He has never fought Vassily Lomachenko or shown any interest in fighting Teofimo Lopez or Devin Hani. Tank is already rich and has enough money to live in his high-rise apartment in Baltimore for the rest of his life. Will he agree to fight Shakur? You’d like to think so, but his evasion record says otherwise.
