Iran has released Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who has been jailed since November 2021, for three weeks on medical grounds, his lawyer posted on social media.
“Based on the advice of the examining doctor, the public prosecutor suspended the prison sentence against Narges Mohammadi for three weeks and she was released from prison,” Mostafa Nili said on the 10th.
The family and supporters of the 2023 Victor Nobel called that temporary release “inadequate.”
“A 21-day suspension of Narges’ sentence for Mohammadi is insufficient. We demand Mohammadi’s immediate and absolute release or at least an extension of his license to three months,” the statement said, describing the situation as “too little, too late.”
Mohammadi has been imprisoned since November 2021 for convictions in relation to the campaign against capital punishment and compulsory hijab in Iran.
