Haney’s Comeback: Shaking Off The Garcia Loss

Devin Haynie will return to the ring in January for his first fight since the debacle with Ryan Garcia last April.

Bill Hannay has confirmed that his son Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) will fight in January, but won’t say who he will fight. He considered December for the return of former two-division world champion Henny, but felt he needed extra time because it was too close.

Haney’s Return

Some believe Hanei was stewing on his carnage loss to Ryan, replaying in his mind and troubled by what happened 227 days ago that night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Haney vs. Rian Punch statistics

Garcia: 106 out of 386 for a 27% connect rate.
Hanoi: 87 of 586 for 15%

Predictably, Devin’s opponent will be a light punch and likely a lower level fighter to ensure he doesn’t get hurt again. Promoter Eddie Hearn says he wants Hannay to get an opponent at a better level to make sure he’s fine before he faces a tough test.

There are many questions about whether Devin, 26, is mentally and physically fit to return from a grueling fight against the hard-hitting Ryan on April 20. Hanney was knocked out three times by Ryan in that fight. The fight could and probably should have been stopped in that round.

Haynie originally lost that fight by a 12-round majority decision, but the New York State Athletic Commission later expunged the loss due to Ryan’s positive test for the banned PED Ostarine. Haney’s loss was overturned by the New York commission, but the damage was done. The public still saw what Ryan did to Hani, and many no longer viewed him in the same light as before.

January return

“I mean January.” I was thinking of December, but that’s too close. So we mean January. “We’re going to get in there soon, though,” Bill Haney said GOVERNMENT when asked when Devin Hanney will fight next.

“We like to do an eight, ten, to twelve week camp.” I depend. With the things I know about PEDS, you need a longer window of detection to prevent a fighter from benefiting from riding a bike, because he’s on that bike.

“When the phone didn’t ring, we knew it was a storm, and a man’s character is not judged by how he is in the storm, but how he handles the storm,” Bill said.

Haney is still young enough to return from his ordeal against Ryan, but it’s important he stays busy. It’s not a sign that he needs this long to think about getting back in the ring, because it won’t help him improve.
