Floyd Schofield announced on social media that he has received a contract and is “a done deal” for his next fight against Shakur Stevenson.
We are still waiting for Turki Alalshikh, Matchroom and Golden Boi to confirm that Shakur vs. Schofield is signed for February 22nd. Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) revealed on Saturday that he signed the contact. Today he posted a cryptic message, “Baby food,” which apparently refers to the 22-year-old Schofield.
Shakur’s call
2016 Olympic silver medalist Shakur looks happy because this is his baby, the guy he wanted. For obvious reasons, Stevenson has shown no interest in a fight against Andy Cruz or a rematch with Edwin De Los Santos. He knows his limitations. Barring an injury to Shakur, Schofield is a safe bet with no real chance to win.
Some fans were hoping that His Excellency Turki would veto Shakur’s idea of defending rookie Schofield and insist that Stevenson go up against Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratala. That would prevent this atrocity from happening.
The fans are not happy
If the Stevenson vs. Schofield fight is announced, it could end badly for Kid Austin, leaving him, Oscar De La Hoya, Shakur and the fans looking foolish. I tell the fans because many of them will talk about the Shakur-Kidd Austin fight, believing it will be competitive, and be unhappy when it isn’t.
Schofield and his father, Floyd Sr., led the process, pushing hard to fight Shakur. They sound so confident of victory despite young Kid Austin’s complete lack of experience. He looked awful in his last fight against second division Rene Tellez Giron on November 2nd. The fans believe The Schofields are thirsty. They know the pay will be good.
People wouldn’t mind Schofield fighting Newark, New Jersey native Shakur for his WBC 135-pound title if he at least proved himself against some contenders, which he failed to do.
Would it be asking too much for Kid Austin to beat two or three of these talents?

“I know I’m going to be able to beat Shakur, and I’ve seen Floyd fight a little bit, and he’s a little bit of an aggressive fighter,” Jemaine Ortiz said. Fighthippetalking about his belief that Floyd Schofield will beat Shakur Stevenson.
“I saw him get knocked out in his last fight, and he was able to come back and finish it,” Jamaine said of Schofield’s last bout against Rene Tellez Giron on Nov. 2. “If he fights hard and puts pressure on Shakur, I think he can do very well and win the fight.” I think Floyd can take it.”
