Tyson Fury says he will be more focused and not a “clown” in his rematch against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in 22 days on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It sounds like he’s in complete denial about how much Usyk overpowered him, and he’ll be even worse in their rematch.
‘Gypsy King’ (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and his fans believe the reason for his previous 12-round split decision loss to Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in their first fight on May 18 was a loss of focus and a bit of a clown.
Like many aging fighters unwilling to face the truth about their failures, Fury, 36, lost because he was never that good. Usyk exposed just how limited Fury was by attacking him to the body, backing him up on the ropes and stunning him with a big left hand in the ninth. That should have been the end.
Is Usik injured?
“I have a feeling Fury will do it in the second fight.” I really don’t think Fury is kidding this time, and the part is between his teeth,” said Gareth A. Davies. talkSport Boxingpredicting Tyson Fury’s victory over Alexander Usyk on December 21st.
“I think it’s going to be really close again and he (Fury) might be holding on for the points win again.” I just think they’re going to leave it all in there. He is a special guy. He’s a very, very special guy, and it was a very close, brutal fight the first time.
“I assume that Usyk admitted that he was not injured in that fight, and that he was injured in that fight.” He was so stoic. He doesn’t give you anything. He (Fury) beat him,” Garrett said of his belief that Fury had beaten Usyk in the first six rounds.
Garrett is a perfect example of the typical Fury fan who thinks his previous loss was just a case of not coming out to pressure Usyk. Watching the first fight carefully with both eyes, you can see that Usyk was landing heavy punches on Fury’s bread in the first two rounds.
He didn’t like those shots and retreated to the ropes to avoid being hit. That’s where the fight for Fury was lost. He couldn’t take the body shots from Usisk, so he managed to quickly retreat to the ropes to use them to support his injured midsection.
The first half of the Fury-Usyk fight was NOT close, and Usyk was not injured. He dominated five of the first six rounds, and Fury came out on his feet in the ninth round.
“Many doubters and journalists said that Usyk was there with the legends of the sport.” Muhammad Alis, Fraziers, Foremans, Joe Louis, and certainly the greatest of his generation,” said promoter Frank Warren. Ski Sports Boxing.
“I’m glad they said that because when Tyson beats him, nobody can argue with the fact that he beat the best of his generation, which will make him the best of his generation,” Warren said of Fury.
The doubters demand a pension
If Fury loses the rematch with Usyk on December 21, there will be plenty of boxing fans calling for him to retire. It will basically be the 36-year-old Gypsy King’s third straight fight if you count his controversial 10-round split decision win over Francis Ngannou last year on October 28, 2023 as a loss.
Fury looked like the underdog in that fight, but he won the decision. The whole bag of tricks Tyson used to beat Deontay Wilder twice, leaning, grappling and roughing it, failed him against Ngannou. They didn’t even work on Usika.
